Arsene Wenger is still aiming to get one deal done before the window shuts as the boss looks to lift the spirits ahead of an arduous Premier League campaign, John Cross from the Mirror reports.
Wenger admitted after our unconvincing win against Newcastle United that we were in the market for a striker but wasn’t confident about getting a deal over the line (via the Daily Star).
According to John Cross, the signing of this mystery player depends very much on whether or not a deal can be done with such little time left in the window. It has, therefore, raised further questions about our preparation and why we’re consistently scrambling towards the end of the window in search of players.

“Arsene Wenger is still trying to get a deal done before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday,” Cross wrote in the Mirror.
“They are genuinely working on things, it’s just a question of whether there is enough time and if deals can get done.”
Should we fail to make another signing, serious questions will have to be asked about our planning this summer given that we always find ourselves in this position.
Wenger has never concluded a summer window without signing an outfield player, which would suggest that he may be overrating the quality of our squad.
With all our rivals strengthening, is our squad so good that we couldn’t find a player all summer capable of adding something to our team?
Some will find that very hard to believe.
