Wenger turns his attention to £67m-rated striker ahead of deadline day

Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to test Napoli’s resolve and focus his attentions on luring Gonzalo Higuain from the Italian side as the deadline nears in the transfer window, El Confidencial’s Kike Marin reports.

We seem desperate for a striker after our indifferent start to the season with our home record highlighting our lack of firepower up front.

We have failed to score in five of our last six home games, which is rather worrying considering that we’re still creating the chances one would expect of an Arsenal team.

According to Kike Marin, Wenger’s frustration in terms of our other targets has forced him to eye up a move for Higuain – who was close to joining us in 2013 (via Sky Sports).

However, just how we expect to pull this deal off so late in the window is baffling, especially considering the price-tag Napoli placed on their prized asset earlier on this summer.

The Serie A side have made it clear that any club signing Higuain must pay his £67million release clause (via The Guardian), something Wenger would never look to do.

With less the 48 hours left of the window, it’s difficult to see Napoli lowering their demands.
