Arsenal to return in January for €30m rated deadline day striker target

News has emerged that we were close to securing a striker on deadline day, with a bid for Juventus forward Simone Zaza turned down before the window shut, as reported by talkSPORT. We are apparently planning on returning with a bid for the Italian star in January, but may have to match the Serie A side’s €30m (£22m) valuation if we want to lure him away, as reported by The Guardian.

Juventus have only recently signed the player outright, with Zaza previously co-owned with Sassuolo. Arsene Wenger seemingly believes they are ready to cash in though, and is hoping to increase our sparse striking options in the winter transfer window.

The Guardian’s report suggests a loan is also an option, but insists we would not only have to pay his wages, but stump up a £1.4m loan fee as well. Wenger may regret not increasing his offer on deadline day, as we have been left extremely short in the striking department.

With news of Danny Welbeck’s knee surgery also being revealed recently (via Arsenal.com), Olivier Giroud is pretty much our only striker. Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez are both capable of playing up front, but are really not ideal solutions.

Hopefully Wenger isn’t left rueing his missed chances over the next few months, and by January it’s not too late to strengthen the squad.
