Thomas Lemar has spoken for the first time since his proposed £92 million move from Monaco to Arsenal collapsed on deadline day (via The Metro).
It would have been one of the most impressive deadline day transfers in some time but it wasn’t to be for Thomas Lemar’s move to Arsenal.
The Gunners had a £90 million bid for the midfielder accepted by Monaco but the player turned down a move to the Emirates on deadline day.
Lemar was reportedly keen on joining the Gunners earlier in the summer but changed his mind after the club’s late move for the Frenchman.
Speaking after scoring two goals in France’s 4-0 victory over the Netherlands, Lemar seemed eager to get back to Monaco and get on with the season.
“I am a Monaco player and I am very happy there,” he told Canal Plus.
“Now I am going to go and have a good season with my club, try to keep progressing and advancing in my career.”
It was a blow not to see Thomas Lemar finalising his move to Arsenal. The Frenchman is an excellent prospect and an outstanding player already. It’s damning that the club couldn’t finalise the transfer earlier this summer when he was supposedly keen to join Arsenal.
