Arsenal are believed to be keen on a summer move for Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, who could cost the Gunners up to £20 million, according to Standard Sport.
Despite signing Granit Xhaka for big-money last summer, the report claims Arsenal want to bring in a new central midfielder this season and Lemina is their top target.
Central midfield has been a problem position this season largely due to injuries, Santi Cazorla has been badly missed while Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin, and Mohamed Elneny have all missed chunks of the season.
Lemina is a fringe player at Juventus and the club would be willing to let him leave this summer although Roma and Schalke are also reportedly interested in his services.
Whether he would be interested in a move to Arsenal, should the club miss out on Champions League football remains to be seen, although the club may well be able to offer regular first-team action.
Liverpool have previously been interested in Lemina who has been compared to Paul Pogba in the past due to his physique and playing style.
Arsenal’s interest in Lemina could be bad news for Jack Wilshere who is once again recovering from injury after a loan spell with Bournemouth.
Although Wilshere featured regularly for Eddie Howe’s side he failed to really shine and make a pressing case for his inclusion in the Arsenal starting XI next season.
Xhaka, meanwhile, is enjoying a strong finish to the season after a difficult start and will be hoping to kick on next season.
