Championship side Aston Villa have joined the growing list of clubs interested in signing Arsenal star Chuba Akpom on loan. The forward has only just returned from injury and seems set to leave the club before the transfer window is finished (via The Mirror).
Arsenal are spoilt for choice in attacking positions right now. Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud are both scoring goals, while Arsene Wenger can also call upon Danny Welbeck, Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott to play up top.
The strength of the Gunners’ frontline means that not everyone will play and it seems that youngster Chuba Akpom will pay the price.
The Englishman is still highly thought of at the Emirates but is reportedly set to leave the club on loan during this transfer window and the Birmingham Mail reports that Aston Villa are keen on the striker.
Akpom has had a number of loan moves in recent years, most recently to Hull City last season, managed by current Villa boss Steve Bruce.
Bruce and Arsene Wenger are known as having a very good relationship so this deal could be likely. Akpom scored 7 goals in 42 appearances for Hull last season but has been limited to just one appearance for the Gunners this year.
It’s a shame to see a youth player head on loan but this is probably in the best interests of both club and player. Chuba Akpom needs to play games if he is to fulfil his potential and with the calibre of players ahead of him, he isn’t going to get very many at the Emirates.
