Ajax manager Peter Bosz has told his club’s website that Riechedly Bazoer’s transfer away from the club is in its “final phase”. The Dutch midfielder is reportedly a target for Arsenal but it’s unclear whether that’s where Bazoer is heading.
Well, the current Arsenal midfield may be stocked with options but it seems that Arsene Wenger is always looking for ways to improve his side. The Gunners have been linked with a move for Ajax midfielder Riechedly Bazoer for some time and it has been revealed that the 20-year-old is close to completing a transfer away from the Eredivisie giants.
The Gunners have been scouting the player for some time but they are not alone. The Ajax star has been compared to Patrick Vieira, Clarence Seedorf and Sergio Busquets and it seems that every club in Europe is after Bazoer. FC Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus are just some of the major teams currently interested in the player.
Well, now there has been another revelation in the story with Ajax manager Peter Bosz telling the club website that Bazoer is close to a move away from the club.
“Riechedly and I had a good conversation on Saturday afternoon,”Bosz told his club’s official website. “He reported that his transfer is in the final phase – and I also understand this from Marc [Overmars, director of football].
“He has a view to a new club, which is why we gave him freedom from training to work with players who are focused on our next opponent.
“We shook hands and parted in a good way.”
Overmars’ role could be key here. The club’s director of football has an obvious history with Arsenal which could give the Gunners an advantage. However, it must be remembered that Arsenal have an abundance of options in midfield with Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin and Jack Wilshere all 25 years old or younger.
Overmars also played for Barcelona and Riechedly Bazoer has stated in the past that he is an admirer of the Spanish champions. “Maybe when I turn 22 or 23 I can leave for a nice club in Spain, Preferably to Barcelona,” he was quoted. “That would be the ultimate dream. That tiki-taka style of football suits me.”
It’s unclear who will sign the youngster but it seems certain that he is on the move in January. It would be a long-term boost for Arsenal to sign one of the most promising youngsters in world football but an unnecessary signing given the strength the Gunners have in the position.
