Arsenal are planning a move for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard in response to interest from Old Trafford in Mesut Ozil, according to The Sun.
We brought you the surprise news recently that Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to move for the Germany international next summer if he fails to extend his current deal with the Gunners which expires in 2018.
The pair worked together previously at Real Madrid and Mourinho has a good relationship with the World Cup winner who could be offered £300,000-per-week at United.
While Wenger has spoken positively about Ozil and insisted he is happy at the club and wants to stay there has still been no breakthrough in contract talks.
Ozil is believed to want £250,000-per-week to remain in north London and recent reports have claimed Arsenal are willing to allow Ozil to leave if he does not reduce his wage demands.
However, when questioned about both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez’s future on Friday at his pre-match press conference Wenger has insisted he is staying calm and doesn’t believe there are any problems.
The Sun’s report claims Arsenal will move for Lingard and offer him £120,000-a-week, twice his current salary to make the switch to the Emirates.
Lingard is also out of contract in 2018 and Wenger is reportedly ready to make a move, he has also raided Old Trafford once recently bringing in Danny Welbeck in 2014.
Whether Lingard would be tempted to leave Old Trafford, the club he joined as a boy, remains to be seen but it seems a strange rumour given the 23-year-old is far from a regular with the Red Devils.
