With only two days remaining before the summer transfer window’s deadline day ends, a huge blow has been dealt to Arsenal’s hopes of making a seventh signing. Lanus director has revealed that Gunners target Miguel Almiron is going nowhere. Until December, that is.
Speaking to ABC Color, Hernan Arboleya admitted that their uprising Paraguayan starlet will one day make the move to Europe, but that won’t come until the New Year. He said:
“There was no official contact of any kind with Arsenal,” he said. “We intend [for Almiron] to stay with us until December.”
“The important thing is that Almiron is playing.
“[We will] analyze if an offer comes. We know that Miguel Almiron will end up playing in Europe.”
Initial belief was that the north London outfit would wrap up their business once they (officially) complete the deals for Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia and Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna. However, rumors emerged over the weekend linking Arsene Wenger’s side with the 22-year-old.
After making a name for himself back home at Cerro Porteno, Almiron joined his current Argentine employers and has since contributed to two goals and one assist in 12 appearances. The winger’s exploits also earned him a call-up to the national side, having featured in the recent Copa America tournament.
If the Gunners miss out on the Paraguayan, Le Prof still boasts plenty of attacking power in his Arsenal squad. Lucas Perez is on his way to the Emirates Stadium, and yet the Gunners still have the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Theo Walcott.
Danny Welbeck is on the road to recovery whilst Olivier Giroud is expected to be back at 100 percent soon, having missed out on the starting eleven in Arsenal’s three opening games due to a lack of full match fitness.
