After failing to confirm his place in the first-team, Calum Chambers is expected to leave Arsenal for more first team minutes. The defender is expected to join Middlesbrough who are close to agreeing loan terms with the Englishman.
West Ham, Hull, Watford and Roma all made enquiries about Chambers but according to Sky Sports, Middlesbrough are close to making it official and agreeing personal terms with the player.
The 21-year-old has been out of favour at the Emirates after the arrival of Rob Holding who has slithered his way into the first team. Arsene Wenger thinks it’s ideal for the defender to leave on loan since the impending arrival of Mustafi will eventually leave no place for him in the team.
Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has been on the look-out in the market for an extra defender and Chamber seems to be the perfect candidate to add needed versatility in the defensive line-up. The England international can play as a centre-back as well as in the right-back position and has even acted as a defensive midfielder for Wenger.
Chambers joined Arsenal more than two years ago from Southampton for an estimated fee of £16 million. In his overall career with the Gunners he has managed to appear in only 20 league games.
Despite interest from Middlesbrough to sign Chambers permanently, Arsene seems adamant on sending him off only temporarily. The Frenchman believes that a season away from the club will speed up his development into a complete defender.
Chambers has travelled for a medical to Boro after turning down Hull who also made advances for him.
