Arsenal are set to compete with other Premier League clubs to sign Nottingham Forest’s midfielder Oliver Burke, heralded as the ‘next Gareth Bale’. The 19 year old is also on the radar of Liverpool and Tottenham, in addition to Sunderland who had scouts monitor his performance against Wigan last weekend (via the Daily Star).
The youngster currently has two years left on his existing contract with Forest, the club is said to demand at least £10 million for him.
The Championship club is willing to sell the player to a Premier League club with the intention of having the player back on loan for the rest of the season.
The Scotland international has been deemed as the next Gareth Bale by his teammate, Thomas Lam, at Forest.
“Oliver is a very good player with a lot of potential,” he said.
“He shows his strengths every week on the pitch and he reminds me of Gareth Bale.
“I’m not saying he will be as good as Bale, but he has that sort of potential.
“Even though he’s still so young he’s a really important player for us.
“You can see he scares opposition defenders because he is so dangerous.”
Burke has scored three goals in three appearances, the midfielder likes to dribble and prefers playing short-passes and can therefore easily adapt to Arsenal’s style of play. The player appears slightly hesitant on making key tackles but that can be developed with time.
The Scot has also gained interest from West Ham United, which means Arsene Wenger would need to act quick on his feet if he intends to sign this young talent.
