Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin want to take young Arsenal star Serge Gnabry on loan. The winger is currently at the Olympics with the German National Team but hasn’t played for the Gunners first team since the 2013-14 season (via ESPN).
He’s currently the top scorer in the men’s Olympic football competition and clearly has potential but Serge Gnabry looks well away from the Arsenal first team right now. With Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, and Joel Campbell above him in the pecking order, Gnabry may have to move to continue his development.
Step forward Hertha Berlin. The Bundesliga are the latest team to declare an interest in signing the winger on loan.
“Serge exactly meets our search parameters,” Hertha coach Pal Dardai told German newspaper Bild. “Let’s see what will happen in the next couple of days.”
Gnabry broke into Arsenal first team in 2013 and excelled. He made 9 Premier League appearances in the 2013-14 season, scoring his only goal away at Swansea City. The winger has since suffered a number of injuries which has hindered his progress.
The 21-year-old looked to get back to his best form when he made a loan move to Premier League side West Bromwich Albion in 2015. Unfortunately for Gnabry, he only made a single Premier League appearance before the deal was cancelled in January.
His career looked to be heading off a cliff until this Olympic tournament. The winger has scored a very impressive 6 goals in 4 matches so far to help his German team reach the semi finals. Gnabry and Germany are in action against Nigeria later today. Kickoff is 8:00 pm GMT.
