Piers Morgan claims Mesut Özil is considering an Arsenal exit this summer, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona both contacting the German playmaker in secret to make him an offer.

While Özil seems incredibly happy at Arsenal, it’s not unthinkable that he could be considering an Arsenal exit this summer. A move to Barcelona or Bayern Munich would be a very attractive prospect, and our disappointing form at times has certainly got many worrying about whether our top stars will want to stay at the club.
The fact that the World Cup winner has apparently put contract talks on hold yet again (via the Mirror) makes it even more worrying, as we really want to get him tied down long-term as soon as possible.
It could simply be a case of Özil wanting to wait and see what happens this summer, as he’ll want to know the club share his views on success and the direction the club is going. The signing of Granit Xhaka is a great start to the summer transfer window, but Özil – along with pretty much every Arsenal fan – will be hoping that the Swiss international is followed by a world class striker and perhaps another player or two.

If we were to lose Özil this summer then it would be an unbelievable blow, not only because we’d be losing arguably the best No.10 in the world, but also because of the message it would send to the rest of the players and to the fans. We are no longer a club who need to sell to balance the books and we should be looking to bring world class players to the club, not let them leave. Arsene Wenger and the club need to show Özil that we are committed to improving and winning titles, because if players of his calibre start forcing an exit then it could throw us into a vicious cycle we can’t get out of.
