We’re badly in need of a new striker signing this summer, and numerous reports suggest we’re in the hunt for AZ Alkmaar’s prolific forward Vincent Janssen (via the Mirror).
Janssen has been fantastic in the Eredivisie this season, scoring a superb 26 goals in 33 games. He’s been drawing comparisons with Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy (via ESPN), with his eye for goal unquestionably his standout feature.
The 21-year-old’s fine form this season has seen him called up to the Dutch national team, where he’s been equally impressive. Obviously on current form the Netherlands aren’t exactly a European powerhouse, but to be leading the line for a team that size at just 21 is certainly hugely impressive.
England fans have witnessed what Janssen can do first hand too, with the youngster scoring and assisting during the Netherlands’ 2-1 win over the Three Lions in March. He’s been consistently performing for quite some time now, and could evolve into one of the best strikers around.
While it certainly seems like the type of signing that would appeal to Arsene Wenger, it’s hard to see this one happening. He’s already caused quite a stir and attracted plenty of attention, and Wenger would be unlikely to want to get into a bidding war for the young forward.

While Arsenal fans obviously want the manager to go out and sign a goalscoring forward this summer, many may still not be happy with Janssen unless he immediately hits the ground running. After lacking a top quality forward for so long we badly need to sign an established name, and if Wenger doesn’t go all out to sign a striker this summer there will be ructions.
