Özil ‘willing’ to leave Arsenal if right offer comes along

In one of the most ridiculous rumours we’ve heard this winter so far, Mesut Özil is being linked with a move back to Real Madrid, and is even “willing” to leave Arsenal, as reported by Donbalon (via the Express).

The German international has been in phenomenal form this season and is unquestionably the best No.10 in the world at the moment. It’s understandable that he’d be monitored by some of the top clubs in the game, but a return to the Santiago Bernabeu seems crazy. It’s even crazier to think that Özil would be “willing” to head back to the Spanish capital after they dumped him to make room for Gareth Bale, especially when he’s doing so well at Arsenal.

He was clearly deemed surplus to requirements at Madrid, and so they cashed in on him to make room for their latest batch of Galacticos.

He may have struggled initially at Arsenal, but he’s currently playing the best football of his career, is in the last 16 of the Champions League (albeit up against Barcelona), and is fighting for the Premier League title.

There seems no reason for him to leave at this point, especially not for Real Madrid – who not only gave up on him in the past but are also lagging behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Whether the interest is real or not, Arsene Wenger certainly seems to be taking precautions against it. He is looking to tie the 27-year-old down to a lengthy new contract, and is reportedly set to offer him a five and a half year deal worth £180,000 per week (via the Express).
