Russian star poised to be Wenger’s next bargain buy

The news of another setback to Danny Welbeck has once again caused Arsenal supporters to cry out for another signing. This one time it seems that Arsene Wenger’s been on it before anybody else.

According to reports in The Metro, a deal for Dynamo Moscow striker Aleksandr Kokorin has been agreed between the two sides with the player agreeing personal terms with the club (according to Izvestia). Although a striker was considered a priority last July, not a single outfield player was signed. The January transfer window looks a chance to make up to rectify that.

The Metro reports that an amount to the tune of £4.3million will have to change hands in January for Kokorin to be on his way to the Emirates. With six goals in his last 12 matches for club and country the Dynamo Moscow #9 has been in good form this season. His deal expires in the July transfer window and hence Dynamo could risk losing him on a free transfer six months down the line which explains the low price for the marksman. Talks had been going on in the summer too but the deal was not wrapped up at the time.

If reports are to be believed the Gunners have finally landed their man with Arsene Wenger having followed the Russian for a long time.

If successful, the move will make Kokorin the second Russian striker to grace the Emirates after Andrei Arshavin. The low price makes it a transfer which may fly under the radar but the Emirates faithful will be hoping for Kokorin’s career trajectory to be different to Arshavin’s.
