Reports in Brazil suggest that arsenal could announce their first summer signing ‘within the coming days’ with Gabriel Martinelli set to join the club (via Sport Witness).

The supposed transfer of Gabriel Martinelli to Arsenal has been discussed for some time.

The young forward turned 18 today, an age which allows him to move to England and make any potential transfer official.

Arsenal are said to have tied up a deal for the Ituano striker several weeks ago but now, things look ready to take a step closer.

Martinelli has reportedly been in Europe lately to secure his Italian passport, potentially avoiding any British work permit issues.

Now, reports in Brazil suggest that Arsenal are set to announce the completed deal ‘within the coming days’.

Martinelli has impressed in his home country and has attracted offers from across Europe but reports suggest that the Gunners won the race.

Globo Esporte claim that the 18-year-old will sign a five-year contract in a transfer said to be worth £6 million.

It’s an encouraging story. Gabriel Martinelli seems like an exciting young prospect and could represent a good investment by the club. Arsenal are lacking in attacking options so perhaps it could be a good time for Martinelli to join the club.
