Reports in Spain suggest that Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka this summer (via Mundo Deportivo).
The football transfer window often has knock-on consequences with one deal sparking a chain of transfers into life.
That could well be the case again with Manchester City closing in on the signing of the Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri.
The Spanish side will need a replacement for their star defensive midfielder and reports in Spain claim that two names top the list.
One of which is the Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente, a deal which Mundo Deportivo claims will be highly difficult.
That leaves Diego Simeone’s side with the second option, Granit Xhaka.
The Swiss midfielder has been linked with an exit to AC Milan this summer and these Atletico Madrid rumours are a change.
Simeone is said to be a huge fan of the player who only signed a new contract at the Emirates last summer.
Granit Xhaka isn’t the most popular player with the Arsenal fans but there are bigger gaps in the squad to address beforehand. A summer sale would require a big change in the Gunners’ style of play. But there’s a feeling that the Arsenal hierarchy could be convinced to let him leave if a massive offer for Granit Xhaka were to come in.
