Bild: Arsenal Want Leverkusen Goalkeeper To Replace Cech

Reports in Germany suggest that Arsenal have identified Leverkusen stopper, Bernd Leno as a potential replacement for Petr Cech (via The Metro).

Amid the talk of a need to replace Arsene Wenger, another experienced figure will soon need a successor at Arsenal.

Petr Cech turns 36 in a few months and is starting to show signs of decline from the player he once was.

It’s perfectly natural, of course, for a footballer of that age which is why the need for a new goalkeeper should be a priority in the summer.

It seems that Arsenal are already on the case with reports in Germany that they have identified a potential candidate.

German publication Bild reports that the player Arsenal want is Bernd Leno, the 26-year-old goalkeeper and vice-captain for Bayer Leverkusen.

Leno has been Leverkusen’s first choice for seven impressive seasons and has made six appearances for the German national team.

Leno is under contract until 2020 but has a release clause which would allow him to leave for €25 million (£22 million).

It’s a good deal for a very good goalkeeper. Leno has been one of the best stoppers in the Bundesliga for a number of years and would represent a clear upgrade on Petr Cech. £22 million is also a decent price for a starting player in this transfer market.
