German side Schalke have revealed how Arsenal got left-back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer this summer despite his incredible season last year (via Sport Witness).
Arsenal’s summer signings seem to be settling in well. Alexandre Lacazette has bagged four goals in his opening six matches and Sead Kolasinac was the club’s player of the month in August.
The Bosnian has impressed many with his presence – both offensively and at the back during his time at the club.
One thing which has impressed many is the manner in which Sead Kolasinac ended up at the club. It’s rare for a club like Arsenal to sign a first-team player on a free transfer, especially one with such quality.
The left-back was named in the Bundesliga team of the year last season and now, his former club Schalke have revealed how they lost one of their star men.
“An extension with Seo [Kolasinac] was not economically justifiable,” claimed sporting director, Christian Heidel.
“I have a sporting and an economic responsibility. A populist act, only to avoid possible criticism, would be strange to me.”
Schalke aren’t in the strongest position right now and it seems that Arsenal have done well to take advantage of that. Sead Kolasinac has been an exciting addition to the Arsenal squad in recent weeks and the Gunners deserve credit for signing a standout first-time player on a free transfer.
