Manchester City are reportedly set to make a huge new bid of £70 million for Alexis Sanchez as they aim to lure the Chilean to the Etihad before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.
According to the Daily Mail, City will offer a huge cash deal, having seen their initial offer of a cash plus player deal, involving Raheem Sterling rejected.
The report also states that following Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, the club have now decided they are willing to sell players who want to leave, providing acceptable offers are made.
If true, that represents a huge change in stance with Arsene Wenger having repeatedly insisted Sanchez will stay at the club and see out his contract.
If City do come in with an offer of £70m, it now looks as though that will be too tempting for the club to turn down, particularly with the Chilean able to walk away for free next summer.
Arsenal are believed to still be interested in a cash plus player deal, as signing a replacement for Sanchez this late in the window will prove tricky, but the Mail say Pep Guardiola wants to keep hold of Sterling.
Sanchez is currently on international duty in south America, so completing a deal before tomorrow’s deadline may not be easy, but it’s starting to look like he might just be on his way.
