Arsene Wenger has given an update on Arsenal’s interest in Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and it’s not good news as far as a potential transfer is concerned (via The Mirror).
He was one of the first players to be linked with a move to Arsenal this window and here we are with a week left and it’s still not completed.
Thomas Lemar enjoyed a breakout season with Monaco last year and after the club’s incredible success in Ligue 1 and was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal earlier in the window.
At times it looked close to completion but after Monaco sold another few players instead, nothing came to fruition. now, Arsene Wenger has given an update on the potential deal and it’s not good news for the Gunners.
“That’s dead because Monaco have closed the door definitely,” Wenger told the press.
“They have still unknown cases like Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho. They lost already Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Bakayoko and Monaco is at the stage where they have closed the door.
“We have the numbers, the quality to deal with that [the set back of not signing him].”
Well, that looks like it’s the end of the Thomas Lemar deal. It’s a shame because the Frenchman would have added a lot to the squad. He’s a quality player but it seems that the Gunners will have to look elsewhere with just a week left in the transfer window.
