Arsenal Give Up On Signing Lemar From Monaco

Arsenal have reportedly given up on their attempts to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco, according to the Daily Mail.

The Monaco winger has emerged as the Gunners’ top target this summer, with the club having had several bids rejected by the French champions.

However, Monaco are determined to keep hold of their youngster and Arsenal are now set to end their pursuit of the 21-year-old.

Instead, Arsenal will now turn their attentions to trimming the squad and reducing the wage bill with the club needing to offload several fringe players.

Defenders  Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson look to have no future at the club, while midfielder Jack Wilshere has been linked with an exit as well as forwards Lucas Perez and Joel Campbell.

While there has been interest in Perez, Arsenal seem to be struggling to agree a deal for the forward as they are keen to recoup as much of the £17m as they can.

Elsewhere there appears to have been little interest in the club’s fringe players with most of the attention focusing on Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The report claims Arsenal are increasingly confident Sanchez will stay for at least one more season, but are concerned about the Ox who is reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea.
