Arsenal Unwilling To Pay More Than £35m For Mahrez

Arsenal’s attempts to sign Riyad Mahrez appear to have stalled with the club reportedly unwilling to meet Leicester’s £50 million valuation.

Arsene Wenger’s side only want to spend £35m on the Algerian international, far below the asking price, according to the Daily Mail.

The two clubs have already held negotiations over a possible transfer but appear to be way apart in terms of price, and a compromise will be needed if the move is to go ahead.

Mahrez has already announced his intention to quit the club this summer, and it is believed that Leicester will allow him to leave should they receive a suitable offer.

Whether Arsenal will up their bid remains to be seen, with Monaco’s Thomas Lemar believed to be their preferred target, although price is also a problem.

The latest reports claim the Gunners have made a new and improved £40m bid, although Monaco reportedly want double that for their France international.

Arsenal returned to pre-season training this week, ahead of their trip to Australia, with the squad set to fly out on Sunday.

The club will play Sydney FC on Thursday July 13 and Western Sydney Wanderers on July 15 before heading to Shanghai where they will play friendlies against Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
