Laurent Koscielny Says He “Doesn’t Know” If He’ll Leave Arsenal To Join Marseille

Laurent Koscielny says he “doesn’t know” if he will leave Arsenal for Marseille, calling the Ligue 1 side a “mythical club” (via Telefoot).

This certainly wasn’t one of the transfer sagas many people expected. Arsenal vice-captain and defensive stalwart, Laurent Koscielny is being linked with a move away from the Emirates.

The 31-year-old has been at the club since 2010 and has made close to 300 appearances for Arsenal. Koscielny took to the field 42 times last season but is now being linked with a move away from the Gunners.

The centre-back is a reported target for Marseille and when asked about the links, did little to quash them.

“I have always said that I was a Marseille fan when I was younger,” Koscielny told French outlet Telefoot

“When a mythical club like Marseille contacts you, it is good. But will I sign for them? I have no idea at all.”

It’s hardly a refusal from the man who missed the FA Cup final win over Chelsea last month. However, Koscielny did go on to say that he is happy at Arsenal for the time being.

“I have a contract with Arsenal, I even signed an extension last November until [June] 2020.

“I feel very good there.”

It remains to be seen how much strength there is behind these claims. Laurent Koscielny has been a key part of Arsenal’s defence for seven straight seasons and it seems unlikely that the club would want to sell him right now. Perhaps he will join Marseille when he eventually leaves Arsenal but for the time being, it’s likely he’ll remain.
