Despite our recent good form, we are still short of several players if we want to compete at the highest level. Arsene Wenger is apparently looking to solve at least one problem position this January, and is eyeing a €30m move for Real Madrid’s Jese, as reported by the Express.
A striker is high on our list of priorities, with our options still relatively limited. Theo Walcott has been doing an excellent job when deployed there, while Olivier Giroud has found some form following the arrival of some real competition. With Walcott and Danny Welbeck sidelined with injury however (via Arsenal.com), we are left worrying every time Giroud picks up a knock.
Jese arguably isn’t of the calibre required, as we really need a world class forward rather than another squad player, but at just 22-years-old there’s plenty of time for him to improve.
The Spaniard looked set for a lengthy run in Real Madrid’s starting XI, with Karim Benzema rocked by injury and a blackmail scandal (via ESPN). Rafa Benitez opted to play Gareth Bale up front in their recent loss against Sevilla though, which may have Jese considering his future.
He’s scored two goals in four La Liga appearances, but will no doubt have a better chance of first team football elsewhere.

We are currently joint top of the Premier League table, only second to Manchester City by goal difference. Strengthening in January could really help us push for the title, but is Jese the player we need?
