Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is tempted to swap Arsenal for Liverpool this summer, according to a report in The Telegraph.
The 23-year-old has just over a year remaining on his current deal at the Gunners and although Arsene Wenger has repeatedly insisted he wants the Englishman to stay, he is yet to sign a contract extension.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has therefore been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, but is now believed to be considering a move to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp is reportedly willing to offer Oxlade-Chamberlain a place in his central midfield, which appeals to the Arsenal star, and is willing to pay £25 million.
Oxlade-Chamberlain admitted at the start of the season he would consider a move away if he struggled for game time this season, yet in recent weeks he has arguably been Arsenal’s most impressive performer.
Wenger’s switch to a new formation has seen Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to a right wing back role, although he is known to prefer to play in central midfield.
The report claims that should his contract talks at Arsenal fail to progress he will seek to push for a move to Liverpool.
Arsenal’s transfer plans may be heavily influenced by where the club finishes in the table and whether they manage to secure Champions League football for next season.
Wenger’s future at the club will also have a bearing, the Frenchman refuses to confirm if he will stay, although he is widely expected to stay on at the moment.
Although Oxlade-Chamberlain has looked good recently there is still a feeling he hasn’t quite progressed as much as he should have since joining the club and a £25m offer, if it comes in, may tempt the club to sell a player who will be out of contract next summer.
