Arsenal are planning a move for Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibe, just a few months after the player turned down reported Gunners interest. Sidibe is one of a number Monaco players to catch the attention of the major European clubs but Arsenal appear to be at the front of the queue (via Sport Witness).
The summer is around the corner and that means only one thing to football fans: the transfer window. After a fairly busy one last season, the Gunners are set for one of their biggest in decades.
The futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil are obviously the main priority. The club will need to decide whether the pair will sign new contracts, leave in the summer or remain for another season and leave on a free next year. There’s also the small matter of Arsene Wenger’s future.
These three decisions will have a knock-on effect on the rest of the transfer window with the club either having to replace those three or the other areas in the team which need strengthening.
One such area is the full-back positions. Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs aren’t getting any younger and it seems that Hector Bellerin’s progress has slightly stalled without any competition on the right.
Now, reports in France indicate that the Gunners are ready to make a move for Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibe.
The 24-year-old was linked with a move to the Emirates last season but elected to leave Lille for the Ligue 1 side instead. The Frenchman has impressed immensely during his single season at the club with his solid defending and barnstorming forward runs and crossing.
This would be a good move for the club. L’Equipe reports that a deal could be made for around €25 which is a pretty decent price for a reasonably young player with Champions League experience. He can play either right-back or left-back which would be very useful to the Gunners. Whoever is in charge next season, hopefully the Gunners can finalise this deal.
