Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Carl Jenkinson is set to leave Arsenal with Crystal Palace the likeliest destination. The boss confirmed the reports at his pre-match press conference and said that a deal could be completed by the weekend (via Arsenal.com).
It’s a story which has broken in the last couple of days and Arsene Wenger confirmed the reports at his pre-match press conference. The boss said that right-back Carl Jenkinson could be set to leave the club with a possible move across London in mind.
“It’s a possibility that he will move in the next 2 to 3 days,” Wenger confirmed
The Frenchman was then asked if Crystal Palace was the club interested in Jenkinson and replied, “You look well informed.”
“It’s possible but I can’t tell you much more, we haven’t come to any conclusion yet.
“We have still Debuchy, Gabriel, Bellerin. We are not short in this position which is why we allow one to go out as they have less chance of playing.”
Wenger did not say whether it would be a loan or permanent deal for Jenkinson but reports indicate that it would be temporary. Jenkinson has been at the Emirates since 2011 but has seen his opportunities limited in recent seasons following the emergence of Hector Bellerin. He impressed during his first season on loan at West Ham but injuries hampered his second which could explain why another loan move is on the cards for the 24-year-old.
