Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem is a reported target for German giants Borussia Dortmund, according to sources close to the player. The United States Under-23 international was born in Germany and is reportedly interested in returning to the country after failing to make an impact on the Arsenal first team thus far (via ESPN).
He has often been described as the most promising young player at the club but reports now indicate that Gedion Zelalem’s future lies away from the Emirates. The 19-year-old is yet to make a Premier League appearance and with a long list of players ahead of him in the pecking order, the midfielder may have to look elsewhere to further his career.
ESPN reports that Zelalem is doing just that after having his head turned by a reported interest from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. Manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly keen to bring the player in this January in a cut-price deal. Zelalem’s contract expires at the end of the season and with no indication that the Gunners will offer the youngster another one, the door seems to be open for the 19-year-old.
There would be a tinge of regret if Gedion Zelalem were to leave the club this January. Despite not having any real impact on the Arsenal first team, it has long been believed that he would eventually break into the senior squad. The regret wouldn’t be because of the loss of the player, but from the potential he never really fulfilled.
