There are multiple reports that Manchester City are planning moves for not one but two Arsenal players. Alexis Sanchez and Hector Bellerin are the two names being linked with moves to the Etihad (via The Daily Star).
They’re two of The Gunners’ key players but Arsenal could soon face bids for both Hector Bellerin and Alexis Sanchez. We reported yesterday that FC Barcelona are eyeing up Bellerin but new reports indicate that they may have come competition for the defender, as well as their former man Sanchez.
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are reportedly keen on taking the pair, either in January or in the summer. The two players are in similar situations, both are about to enter contract negotiations with the club and any potential transfer away from the Emirates seems to hinge on those negotiations.
Manchester Evening News reports that Alexis Sanchez is holding off for a deal worth around £200,000 per week. Mesut Özil is the current highest earner at the club on £140,000 per week and Sanchez wants to top that. The paper also reports that Gabriel Jesus will also be joining City in December to add to an already impressive attacking line-up.
The Hector Bellerin situation is a little more complicated. As previously mentioned, FC Barcelona are interested in signing the player but it seems that Manchester City are also keen. Bellerin has already turned down Guardiola once – Pep was the manager when the right back chose to leave FC Barcelona for Arsenal in 2011 – and Arsenal fans will hope he does it again.
However, The Daily Mail claims that Arsenal are actually willing to let him leave the club. They claim that the North London side would accept a figure of £40 million for the 21-year-old next summer.
It’s a story which won’t make for good reading for Arsenal fans. There’s obviously a history of the club selling its players to both Manchester City and FC Barcelona but it was assumed that those days were in the past. £40 million is a lot of money for a right back but Hector Bellerin is one of the best young defenders on the planet. Selling the Spaniard would show a tremendous lack of ambition from the club and pave the way for other players to follow.
