A new report from Spanish news outlet AS claims Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil has emerged as a top target for Bayern Munich.
Rumours have been circulating about an Ozil departure after speculation sparked that both Alexis Sanchez and the German midfielder were dithering on contract renewals with the Gunners. Bild added further fuel to the exit reports by claiming that the former Blancos ace in particular is interested in a return to previous outfit Real Madrid.
Wenger called for calm over Ozil’s future during a recent pre-game press conference, insisting the fans have nothing to worry about in regards to the aforementioned players. Unfortunately, a fresh report from AS states that the 27-year-old is a “priority” signing for the Bavarians.
However, Ancelotti has said that he would not be making any further signings this summer and German website TZ were quick to point out that die Roten chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is not a huge fan of the World Cup winner.
This apparent flaw in the report’s argument could possibly detract from the story’s relevance. However, if the German champions are interested in the player then that could be a problem. Ozil has just two years left on his current contract in a situation reminiscent of Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie in recent years.
One could point the finger to Le Prof for Ozil’s rumored desire for an exit, as back-to-back FA Cup wins in 2014 and 2015 are all the German ace has to show for his time at the Emirates Stadium. The Frenchman’s hesitance to bolster his squad every summer transfer window has given rise to a failure to win the English Premier League and Champions League.
Fans will be praying that Mesut remains at the Emirates.
