Arsenal could have signed Sevilla new-boy Wissam Ben Yedder from Toulouse this summer according to former boss Pascal Dupraz, a player he feels is ‘one of the best’ he has seen (via Sky Sports).
Ben Yedder, 25, secured a recent move to Sevilla despite hot interest from Arsenal and will join the La Liga outfit on a five year deal. The Gunners have so far failed to bring in a centre forward and were seemingly following the developments of the Toulouse star.
The attacker netted 17 goals in 35 Ligue 1 appearances last season, aiding the French outfit in their relegation battle. Naturally he was linked with Arsenal who are in need of a centre forward this transfer window and Dupraz confirmed the interest in his former striker was real.
“He could have gone to Arsenal, who are one of the best,” Dupraz told Estadio Deportivo (via Sky Sports). “But Sevilla are also a big club and I think La Liga is perfect for him, because he is a technical player and very attacking.”
“Sevilla have not found a replacement for [Kevin] Gameiro, they have found a better striker. Gameiro is a fantastic player, but Wissam is one of the best I have ever seen.”
Although Ben Yedder may have been ‘one of the best’ in Dupraz’s eyes, it’s seems Arsenal may have considered him a back up option for primary target Alexander Lacazette.
Something felt awfully Chamakh-ian about this link.
