Leicester front-man and star Jamie Vardy shot down offers from Arsenal this summer, eventually signing a new deal with the English Premier League champions, and the striker has finally spoken out and claimed the decision was “easy” as he believes he still has “unfinished business” with the Foxes.
As previously reported, Vardy was heavily linked with a transfer to the Gunners squad this summer; along with his fellow Leicester ace Riyad Mahrez. The Englishman eventually declined their £20m bid.
“It wasn’t that big [the decision] when I think about it. It was quite easy and this is where I want to be.” Vardy told Sky Sports
“It’s not been put out there that I have always said the boys, the close-knit brotherhood, is unbelievable and for me, there’s a lot of unfinished business here.”
He also stated he hopes Mahrez follows suit after Vardy opted to extend his contract for another 4 years. The English forward, who had been away representing the Three Lions in Euro 2016, also spoke publicly against Mahrez’s speculated move.
“I think everyone in the squad would want him here, playing with us, but that’s nothing to do with us and it’s down to Riyad and the club to sort out,” Vardy added.
Vardy and Mahrez both made huge contributions as the star duo in Leicester City’s first major title win last season. However, with only the latter now remaining as an option for the Gunners, Le Prof should pull out all the stops in order to land the former Le Havre ace.
Having racked up 17 goals and 11 assists en route to his PFA Player of the Season award, Mahrez would greatly improve an Arsenal attack that boasts the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.
