The Alvaro Morata to Arsenal rumours have been doing the rounds for quite some time, despite few Arsenal fans actually wanting to see him arrive. The latest reports suggest he’s keen on an Arsenal switch though, and is willing to snub both Manchester United and Chelsea in order to sign for us, as reported by Spanish publication AS.
The Spaniard apparently wants to remain in Italy with Juventus if possible, but as the report states, with Real Madrid’s buyback clause that may not be possible. If he does make a move this summer he wants it to be to Arsenal, with the Champions League football available at the Emirates next season presumably a big factor.
That said though, the report also claims he’ll cost us £46m, which is an outrageous amount for a player in such poor form. He managed just a handful of goals for Juve this season, falling down the pecking order and being totally outshone by Paulo Dybala. He has shown glimpses of the player he’s capable of becoming, but he’s far from the finished article yet and currently worth nowhere near that amount.

He also has some real shortcomings too, with his work-rate being one of them. He’s unquestionably got an eye for goal and a great finish when he wants to, but too often he’s looked lazy and uninterested. This is not what we need at Arsenal, and for £46m you’d expect we could find a better option. There’s famously a real shortage of strikers out there, but that doesn’t mean we should waste our money on the 23-year-old former Madrid star.
