The summer transfer window is looming large as we head into the final days of the season, and Arsene Wenger is apparently already eyeing up a number of players. He’s planning a massive £80m triple swoop to get things started, with Granit Xhaka, Alvaro Morata, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on his shortlist, as reported by The Sun.
Xhaka has long been a target of ours, with the Swiss international seemingly the most likely to make a summer switch to the Emirates. We’ve been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old in all of the last few transfer windows, but the report suggests that we’re now nearing a £30m move for the Borussia Monchengladbach star.
We’ve also been linked with Morata since before he made the switch to Juventus, and now that he’s apparently looking to make a move this summer we’re seemingly back in for him. The link to Morata is slightly more questionable, as The Sun claims we’d be able to sign him directly from Juve for £30m. The fact that Real Madrid have a buy-back clause (via The Sun) means it’s unlikely that we could get him straight from Juventus, as if Madrid can make an easy £5m-£10m then why would they turn down the opportunity to do so?
If the £80m splurge is correct and we really were to sign Xhaka and Morata for a combined £60m, then that would leave just £20m for Mkhitaryan. The Armenian has arguably been showing better form than both our other targets, and it seems impossible that he’d leave Borussia Dortmund for as little as £20m. He’s been assisting and scoring with regularity this season, and is likely to be a target for a number of top clubs.

If we really can sign these three players this summer it would be an absolutely fantastic bit of business, but whether any of them end up arriving remains to be seen.
