We’ve recently been linked with AZ Alkmaar’s in-form forward Vincent Janssen, and his agent has stoked the fire with his latest comments (via the Express).
The Dutch striker has been phenomenal this season, with his fine form making him the top scorer in the Eredivisie. His agent claims that his form could see him secure a move away from AZ this summer, although suggests that a hefty fee may be required to secure his services.
“Provided it’s a good club. Vincent has had a brilliant season, has made his debut in the Dutch National Team,” van Diemen told Fox Sports (via the Express).
“It’s made him hungry for more. AZ is fantastic, but if you have the opportunity to take the next step, then that’s what you should do as a sportsman.
“AZ may ask what it wants for Janssen, because he is fixed for three years and his contract contains no predetermined release clause.”
The 21-year-old has fought his way into the Dutch national side with his performances, and has shown no signs of slowing down. His 27 goals in 34 appearances is impressive by anybody’s standards, and if he can replicate that form in the Premier League he’d be a fantastic acquisition.
The fact that he has no buyout clause and is tied to a three year deal is obviously a blow, and could force us to pay over the odds. Players from Eredivisie aren’t usually all that expensive compared to the Premier League or La Liga though, so we should easily be able to afford whatever price we’re quoted.

It’s hard to tell whether Janssen’s goalscoring would translate to the English top flight, or whether he’s capable of replicating his current form next season. He seems to have a bright future though, and if he can have half the impact of Ruud van Nistelrooy – the player he’s being likened to (via the Express) – then he’d be a fantastic signing.
