Santi Cazorla is a real fan favourite at Arsenal, but despite being 31-years-old already, he certainly hasn’t ruled out making a move back to Spain, as reported by Spanish outlet AS.
The Spaniard started his senior career with Villarreal, and enjoyed two separate spells at the club before joining Malaga. As we all know he’s since made the switch to Arsenal, but he suggests he could make a move back to Villarreal before he finally retires.
“I do not rule out returning to Villarreal one day,” he said.
“Everybody in the world knows that Villarreal are a very special club to me.”
Cazorla has been slowly moving further and further back in the team, starting life at Arsenal on the wing, moving to a No.10 role, and then into a deeper midfield position. He’s really thrived in his new deeper role, and could potentially carry on for a few more years.
He may not be able to perform that role for Arsenal the entire time though, and with the team arguably looking more balanced with a partnership of Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny, he might find himself without regular first team football sooner rather than later. If this does happen it may have him considering his future, and if they’ll have him it seems like he’d be more than open to a move back to Villarreal.

The La Liga side obviously aren’t going to overtake Barcelona, Real Madrid, or even Atletico Madrid any time soon. They are looking really strong at the moment though, currently sitting fourth in the table and set to battle Liverpool in the Europa League. They could certainly be an appealing prospect, especially for a player like Cazorla with an already strong bond.
