A former Poland international has made a rather controversial claim regarding his compatriot Wojciech Szczesny, with Zbigniew Boniek claiming the on loan Arsenal star is actually better than new signing Petr Cech, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.
Cech arrived from Chelsea this past summer, and despite a stuttering start against West Ham, he has shown his quality on a number of occasions.
Szczesny is a fantastic shot-stopper, but mistakes regularly creep into his game. His mental state is arguably his biggest weakness, whereas Cech’s experience really comes to the forefront and is a massive bonus to the team.
Boniek, a former Roma star, believes Arsene Wenger has made a massive mistake by letting Szczesny go, and claims he’s “much” stronger than Cech.
“Szczesny has a ‘dry’ loan for a year… but if all goes well I am convinced that he will remain with Roma, Arsenal made a mistake to send him away, he is much stronger than Cech,” Boniek said.
“He is very happy to stay in Rome, he is happy with the team.”
The retired star suggests Szczesny will join the Serie A side on a permanent basis at the end of the season, but this is yet to be confirmed.
Szczesny is still young by goalkeeping standards, and boasts all the physical attributes required to make it at the top level. It would be a shame to see him leave the club, so hopefully he is able to improve while in Italy and return in the future.

With three quality keepers on our books at the moment, Szczesny wouldn’t get much game time were he to remain. That may not always be the case though, so we haven’t necessarily seen the last of the 25-year-old.
