We have previously been linked with a £16m move for Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko (via the Mirror), but the French international has jokingly (hopefully) suggested that he should be worth more like £72m, as reported by IBT.
We have been lacking a powerful and marauding midfielder for quite some time, and Sissoko ticks a number of the boxes required. As IBT reports, he has hinted at a move in the near future, and suggests he wants to play for a bigger club that competes in the Champions League.
The 26-year-old must know he isn’t worth a fraction of the £72m (€100m) he touted, so you have to assume he was joking when he made the comment.
“If I was president of the club, why [am I not worth] €100m? We see lots of things on the transfer market today,” he said.
There are other weaknesses in the team we need to address before looking at bringing the likes of Sissoko in, with a striker and a more dedicated defensive midfielder a priority.
Sissoko would definitely add some much needed power in the centre of the park, but he prefers to get forward and contribute further up the pitch, and certainly doesn’t have the discipline required to play a deeper role.

He seems happy to remain at Newcastle for the moment to ensure regular playing time and a spot at the Euros next summer, so we really should be putting the player out of our heads.
