Thierry Henry believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic (along with N’Golo Kante) is exactly the type of player we need at Arsenal, and claims Arsene Wenger should be doing everything he can to sign the Swedish international, as reported by the Metro.
Ibrahimovic will be out of contract this summer, and apparently would be open to a move to Premier League and Arsenal in particular (via The Telegraph). The same report claims Manchester United have also been linked with a move for the Ligue 1 star, but Henry believes we have to get in there first.
Speaking to Soccer AM (via the Metro), Henry suggested Ibrahomivic was what we were missing, and urged us to beat our competition to his signing.
“I hear that Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to come,” he said.
“I think a lot will depend on if we finish in the top four, are we going to make the Champions League and attract that sort of player?
“You know that Zlatan can do a job and N’Golo Kante can do a job for us – I’m sure Leicester fans will be upset with what I said.
“But those are the kind of guys that we know about that we must try and get.”
It would be great to see Ibrahimovic in the Premier League, and despite being 34-years-old he’s still more than capable of doing a job. He played a starring role in PSG’s demolition of Chelsea in the Champions League, and any nemesis of Chelsea is a friend of Arsenal’s.
With the way the current Premier League season is going, it’s hard to see any clubs in England holding more appeal for the walking, talking ego. Tottenham and Leicester look like our biggest rivals for the title, and neither side really have any chance of signing Ibrahimovic. Chelsea and Manchester United look likely to miss out on Champions League football, while even Manchester City’s fate is in doubt after a string of erratic performances.
The former Barcelona striker will obviously want to remain among Europe’s elite for as long as possible, and we can certainly offer him that. The question is though, can we match his wage demands and would Wenger be willing to sign such a controversial figure?
Ibra is unquestionably a supremely talented individual, but he’s also incredibly volatile and could unbalance things at Arsenal. Wenger may not want to take that risk, as he’s worked hard to bring cohesion to the current squad.

Many might argue that given his talent it’s worth the risk, and they may well be right. Ibrahimovic consistently scores goals and brings a huge amount to any side, and although he’d only be a temporary solution, he could help take us up a notch. The fact that he’d be available on a free transfer makes the move even more appealing, and may turn Wenger onto the idea a little too.
