Arsenal battling with Guardiola for Man City target

Arsene Wenger is apparently still keen on signing Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, but will have to battle new Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for his signature, as reported by The Sun.

Guardiola is apparently planning on making the Pole his first signing at City, and is ken to get a £25m deal done. Wenger will have to move quickly if he wants to sign Krychowiak, and unfortunately speed is not something the Frenchman is known for.

Having Francis Coquelin at the club and having only just signed Mohamed Elneny, it may seem strange that we’re still after the 26-year-old. As the report suggests though, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini will both be leaving the club this summer, so we could once again be left light in the defensive midfield department.

We’ve been watching Krychowiak for quite some time, but apparently so has Guardiola. And we’re not the only ones, with The Sun reporting that Juventus and Real Madrid have also lodged enquiries.

While Elneny has shown he’s capable of playing in the holding role, his future may lie alongside another defensive midfielder in more of a box-to-box role. With Santi Cazorla unavailable we’ve struggled to find the right balance in midfield, but perhaps Elneny and potentially Krychowiak could be the answer.

Wenger isn’t a fan of entering bidding wars though, so if Guardiola and moneybags City are in for him, we may not get our man.
