Arsene Wenger recently revealed that Mohamed Elneny’s transfer to Arsenal had been made “complicated”, but didn’t explain what the holdup was. The Daily Star claims it’s all to do with immigration and a work permit though, with an appeal required before the FC Basel star makes the switch.
The manager is still more than confident of the move being done, but it’s obvious that it’s taking a little longer than expected.
“It is complicated a little bit but we are working hard on it and hopefully in the next two or three days we will get to the end of it,” he said.
The report suggests every other facet of the deal has been agreed, with the fee, the contract, and the medical all done and dusted. Egypt dropping out of the FIFA rankings top 50 means he failed to meet the conditions required for a work-permit though, and Arsenal were forced to make an appeal.
The appeal has already succeeded, so it’s now just a matter of time before the move is announced. Hopefully Wenger now has his eyes on another target, with Elneny not the only player we need this January.

Arsene Wenger never likes to confirm a deal is even in the pipeline until it’s 100% done, so the fact that he is speaking about the 23-year-old with regard to his imminent Arsenal move shows just how close the deal is to completion. There have clearly been some frustrating delays, but it doesn’t seem like we’ll be waiting much longer.
