Arsenal have now switched their attention to Italy’s Serie A in their hunt for new signings, with Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne the object of the North London club’s current desire, according to the Metro.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder from the Naples suburb of Frattamaggiore has scored eight goals in 20 appearances for the Partenopei this term, attracting not only Arsenal’s attention, but that of other big European clubs as well, including French Champions Paris Saint-Germain.
“We enjoy the interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal,” Insigne’s representative Antonio Ottaiano admitted on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (via Le 10 Sport).
“We’re talking about two clubs at the top of world football, but Lorenzo is focused on Napoli and his personal and team objectives.
“He’s wearing the shirt he dreamed of wearing as a child, and he’ll give his all to bring great satisfaction to the fans.”
It remains to be seen if Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will make a move for the highly-rated Italian international during the January transfer window, but with other strikers more easily available, such as Aleksandr Kokorin (via the Metro) and James Rodriguez (via the Mirror), it is hard for us to imagine a deal for the Italian star taking place before next summer’s European Championships in France are done and dusted.
