Club legend Kanu slams Arsenal for 'surprise' academy player sale

In a welcome change of pace from the barrage of talk surrounding the failed Super League, Arsenal are having to deal with club legend Kanu slamming some of their previous transfer business.

The former Nigerian international striker was a favourite in north London and played for the club for around five years, collecting two Premier League titles during his stint at the Gunners.

However, the now 44-year-old, speaking at an event with quotes via the Metro, spoke of his displeasure for seeing his countryman Alex Iwobi sold to Everton in 2019 in a deal that could reach close to £40million.

‘I was surprised they let Alex Iwobi go when they did.’

‘He was supposed to be a part of this team and I think they’d be a better team with him in it. He’s Arsenal blood and he’s always given his all for the team.’

‘He plays at an international level. I believe he’d be much more comfortable in this Arsenal team than he is in the Everton team.’

Iwobi was in-rotation most of his career in the Arsenal first team and it’s been the case at Everton this season too, where it hasn’t really gone to plan for the 24-year-old.

The same summer that Arsenal offloaded Iwobi, they splashed around £70million on the signing of Nicolas Pepe – a club record transfer deal.
