Arsenal have an opportunity to sign a world class player in January, with Colombian international James Rodriguez fed up with life playing under trainer Rafa Benitez at Real Madrid, according to Spanish football news outlet Don Balon. Reports from Fichajes (via the Metro) claim that Toni Kroos and Isco feel the same way too, with all three potentially seeking an exit.
Real Madrid paid a large amount of money to Ligue 1 side Monaco for Rodriguez after the Colombian’s six goals won him the Golden Boot award at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but he doesn’t appear to be happy in the Spanish capital.
There are a number of explanations as to why Rodriguez is unhappy with Benitez, but it all appears to stem from the Spanish coach not giving him the amount of playing time he thinks he deserves.
Club president Florentino Perez may be forcing the new boss to play Gareth Bale more, with the Welshman arguably seen as the long term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. The fact that Rodriguez has struggled for fitness this season for one reason or another could also be playing a part, and Benitez may be punishing him by leaving him on the bench. The report suggests the relationship is definitely broken, and it seems as though Rodriguez wants out.
As for Toni Kroos, journalist and Real Madrid insider Frederic Hermel told Spanish television show El Chiringuito that the German international has instructed his agent Volker Struth to find him a way out of the Spanish capital (via the Mirror). The Spanish report claims we are showing interest, but with Manchester United having tried to sign him while he was at Bayern Munich, it would be no surprise if he was to end up at Old Trafford.
Third in the puzzle of unhappy players is former Malaga man Isco, with the Metro suggesting he is looking for a way out. The report goes on to suggest Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign the Spaniard, and has already asked the board to sanction a move for the Los Blancos star.
