We look set to complete our first signing ahead of the January transfer window, although it’s not likely to appease Arsenal fans a huge amount. The player in question is 16-year-old Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, whose agent claims we’re on the verge of completing a deal, as reported by The Sun.
Osimhen was a star at the Under 17s World Cup, scoring ten goals in seven games for Nigeria. He’s attracted the attention of a host of clubs, but his agent insists it’s now between us and VfL Wolfsburg.
“We’ve had many offers for Victor,” his advisor Gaffar Liameed said.
“But we’ve narrowed it down to Arsenal and Wolfsburg.”
We were reportedly in a tight race for his signature with North London rivals Tottenham, as Mauricio Pochettino was a big fan of the youngster. Despite the interest from Wolfsburg and Spurs however, The Sun claims Osimhen is far more interested in signing with Arsenal.
It’s understandable that the teenager would want to make the switch to the Emirates, as we are famed for our ability to nurture youth. Arsene Wenger is a world renowned manager who regularly puts his faith in youngsters, and there are very few players who wouldn’t jump at the chance to work with him.
The Premier League is also unquestionably a superior and more competitive league compared to the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich the only team to consistently impress in Germany. Teams like Wolfsburg, Schalke 04, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Dortmund go through bright phases, but none really enjoy success comparable to the English top flight’s elite.

We already have a host of talented young strikers on our books, but so far none have shown they have what it takes to make it on the big stage. Hopefully Osimhen bucks the trend and lives up to the massive potential he evidently has.
