Reports suggest that Arsenal are poised to make Markus Schubert their first signing of the summer (via The Independent).

Very few clubs in the Premier League have made their first signing of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United brought in Dan James earlier this week and it seems as if Arsenal’s wait for their first signing may soon be over.

Reports suggest that the Gunners are closing in on the free transfer of goalkeeper Markus Schubert.

The German stopper turned 21 this week and has been released by his former club Dynamo Dresden.

He is said to be highly-rated in Germany and was said to be scouted out by Arsenal’s former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.

The Independent claims that Arsenal plan on sending the goalkeeper out on loan next season and have already contacted a number of Championship clubs.

It’s an interesting story. We can only wait and see how much truth is in these reports but Markus Schubert seems like a good prospect. The 21-year-old is said to be a good ball-playing keeper with Arsenal intending him to become a long-term challenger to Bernd Leno. Let’s hope that is the case because a free transfer would represent good business.
