Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga as a long-term replacement for Petr Cech (via Sport Witness).
The goalkeeper’s position is something which will need to be looked at for Arsenal in the coming years.
With Petr Cech 35 years old and David Ospina not really convincing, the number one shirt will need to be filled at the Emirates by someone really convincing.
It’s a position which the Gunners have historically had problems with but it seems that they could have identified a solution.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is a 23-year-old goalkeeper for La Liga side, Athletic Bilbao. He has become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and is attracting attention from across Europe.
“Arsenal, have made it known through unofficial intermediaries’ their desire to sign the player,” claims Spanish publication Marca but the Gunners aren’t alone.
Juventus and Real Madrid are also linked to the player who reportedly has a release clause of just €20 million.
It’s unclear whether there is any truth in these reports but the goalkeeping position is something which the Gunners will have to look at soon. Petr Cech is in the final stages of his career and hasn’t exactly set the world alight at the Emirates. Let’s hope a solution could be found soon and perhaps Kepa is that solution.
