Arsene Wenger has explained why he won’t be making a January move for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar (via Arsenal.com).
If things had gone differently on the last day of the summer transfer window then he would already be an Arsenal player.
Thomas Lemar continues to impress in Ligue 1 with Monaco after the French international was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal.
That deadline day deal collapsed and now, Arsene Wenger has been asked whether or not he will be making a January move for the winger.
“No, at the moment I have a big squad,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference.
“The problem for me is keeping everybody together until the end of the season.”
Wenger, of course, is referring to the out of contract players like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
The pair has both been linked with moves away in January and it seems that any transfer business in January would be dependant on that happening.
“Do we go in the transfer market in January? I don’t know yet,” Wenger concluded.
It’s clear that Arsene Wenger is keen to hang onto the squad he currently has. The Frenchman must believe that there is enough quality in the Arsenal team to compete on all fronts but an additional signing of a player like Thomas Lemar certainly wouldn’t go amiss.
